Ivy Cohen, President and CEO, Ivy Cohen Corporate Communications, Inc.
Ivy Cohen has spent 20 years advising companies and executives on how to build their reputations across the U.S. and around the globe. As the force behind Ivy Cohen Corporate Communications Inc. (ICCC), she is an accomplished executive, an advisor to both private and public clients and a results-oriented civic leader. ICCC helps companies build their reputations and differentiate themselves in a competitive market by providing a candid assessment of their branding strategy, recommending and executing effective programs based on business goals, and delivering successful results. While experienced in a variety of industries, ICCC has a significant practice in the areas of consumer products, health & wellness, technology, and international trade. Ivy holds a BA from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Georgetown University. She serves as an advisor for startup and technology incubators, including NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering’s Varick Street Incubator and DUMBO Incubator, as well as NYDesigns and MaverixLab in Miami.
Matthew Hanson joined GSV as a New York-based partner with GSV Asset Management in January 2012, where he oversees Social/Mobile and Education Technology investments. Prior to GSV, he served as Head of Corporate Finance for ThinkEquity Partners, a growth-focused investment banking boutique. At ThinkEquity, Matt helped oversee the firm's equity underwriting activity, raising $2.5 billion across 30 transactions. He also managed internal M&A activity and corporate development on behalf of the firm's Management Committee.He also served as Investment Banker in the Global Corporate & Investment Banking Division at Bank of America Securities, LLC, where he was involved with over $5 billion of M&A, equity, and debt transactions. Matt began his career in the Private Wealth Management Group of Goldman, Sachs & Co. as a Financial Analyst helping to manage $3 billion for ultra-high net worth families, foundations, and charitable trusts.He holds a BA in Economics (with General Honors) from the University of Chicago, and is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
Investment Entrepreneur, Chief Investment Officer
Joseph Hassan obtained his Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Miami. Mr. Hassan has been with American Capital Advisors Group since November, 2010 where he is a registered investment advisor representative. Prior to, Mr. Hassan founded JH Capital Corporation, a private investment management company, Global Resources and Investment Corporation, a venture capital firm, and JH International Corporation, a real-estate investment and development company. In 2007, Mr. Hassan created American Capital Alliance (“ACA”) to consolidate his expertise and varying enterprises he has developed over his career. Today, ACA has become an alternative asset management and investment company that deploys capital across an array of investment strategies viatheir hedge funds, venture capital funds, and varying residential and commercial real estate projects. As a life-long resident of South Florida he continues to find great inspiration in the community and possibilities that surround him.
Paul comes to MaverixLab as an entrepreneur having joined Joe Morgan as his CTO for Noodle Education, Colloquy, Inc. and Kaplan. He is a published expert on Open Source Software, Client/Server Applications and ERP integration. Most recently at Noodle, a vertical search engine for formal/informal education, he built a new IT architecture using Python, MongoDB, Solr, and a REST API. Microsoft benefited from Paul’s software development skills by building applications for customers such as American Express, Tech Data, Office Depot, Royal Caribbean and Auto Nation. He was the founder of Raleigh, Inc., which trained IBM system engineers on UNIX and Internet infrastructure in the USA, France, Spain, and Mexico. Early in his career Paul joined British Aerospace and developed technology systems for combat and civilian aircraft.
Dr. M. Narendra Kini
Medicine, Healthcare, MedTech
M. Narendra Kini, MD, MHA, is President and CEO of Miami Children’s Health System and Miami Children’s Hospital, a 289-bed nationally recognized pediatric specialty hospital in Miami-Dade county with nine pediatric outpatient centers located throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Dr. Kini has been instrumental in expanding the hospital’s network to bring Miami Children’s Hospital-quality pediatric care to children and families throughout the region and with the hospital’s enhanced global telemedicine effort to South America as well as to many other nations. Dr. Kini, who is a board-certified pediatrician, is committed to improving the health status of children.
Before joining Miami Children’s, Dr. Kini served as Executive Vice President for Clinical and Physician Services at Trinity Health, the fourth largest Catholic health system in the United States. He was responsible for physician relations/outreach, clinical informatics, patient safety, comprehensive tertiary care and pharmacy operations for the $5.7 billion health system.
Prior to Trinity Health, Dr. Kini held various positions related to information technology at GE Medical Systems, the latest as Director of the GE Healthcare Leadership Institute. He previously served as Ancillary and Support Vice President at the Children’s Health System in Milwaukee.
Linda has spent her career managing the interplay between the science and art of marketing in both public and private organizations. Her career spans startup, middle market and Fortune 500 companies in all facets of marketing, from marketing plan development to lead generation, brand strategy to advertising and media execution, from marketing communications to marketing analytics. Linda’s extensive background includes having built and administered budgets of more than $100M, as well as effectively managing, multi-million dollar campaigns. She has worked in a number of industries including Education (Bridgepoint, Kaplan, Colloquy) Transportation and Logistics (DHL), Information Technology (Genelle) and Hospitality (Kerzner International Resorts). Linda has been a contributor to Fortune/CNN in the area of Leadership and Management. She serves as an advisor to YouTern and TipQuik.
Founder & CEO
Joe has been focused on translating insights about human behavior into innovative growth businesses. He brings 20+ years of experience creating and growing companies and advising early-stage founders. Before creating MaverixLab, Joe was the CEO of Noodle Education, a vertical search engine for education. With over 650,000 unique visitors to the website monthly, Noodle was recognized by Forbes as one of the most disruptive startups for 2012 and Mashable called Noodle 1 of 5 start-ups transforming education.
As Founder & CEO of Colloquy, Joe was an innovator in the Online Education Management space, creating a technology and marketing platform for global universities and publishers to deliver online education and content. Joe set the direction for Kaplan (a Washington Post Company) as head of strategy; he was President of one of the fastest growing companies in retailing which owned Blimpie Subs & Salads (NASDAQ/AMEX) and was Founder of Pasta Central. Joe mentors a number of founders through his work at the Launch Pad, a Miami business incubator. He advises companies including McGraw Hill, Touch App Media, Flex Academies, Noodle Labs, Science Savings and Jobly.
Frank is a 19 year veteran with Hewlett-Packard. Currently he leads a worldwide team chartered to develop and bring to market innovative cloud support services. His first effort, Datacenter Care- Hybrid Cloud Support, is already being recognized by analyst as an industry first; providing confidence and a defined support experience to enterprises customers who are extending workloads to the cloud.
Previously, Frank has held a number of leadership roles at HP. As Director of Business Development and MS Client Management, within HP’s Enterprise Services, he managed a multi-million dollar services business with a portfolio including Business Continuity Consulting, Data Center Recovery Services, Data Continuity and Utility Computing Services. He earned an ABCP certification from DRII, The Institute for Continuity Management and was an executive council member for Disaster Recovery Journal International. Frank is fluent in Spanish and recently completed Pin Yin 1 Chinese. He received his MBA in International Business from the University of Miami.
Jennifer Scott has spent most of her career innovating in online education. She is the head of Academic and Institutional Services and was one of the first employees at Colloquy, Inc. She was a pioneer at the e-learning consortium Fathom Knowledge Networks, Inc., started by Columbia University. In addition she has also led online training initiatives or product development for financial organizations and The History Channel / A&E Television Networks.
